Adriana Harmeyer has officially achieved super-champion status following her 10th consecutive win on Tuesday.
“I always hoped that I could but I didn’t expect it to happen,” Adriana said. “I’m a super-champion…that’s going to take some getting used to.”
Adriana won Tuesday’s game against Sarah Hartzell and Scott McCann with a score of $21,000. With her latest victory, the archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, has now amassed a total of $225,700.
Adriana has won five games in runaways so far, but Tuesday’s victory was no easy feat. Heading into Double Jeopardy!, Scott was in the lead with $5,000. Adriana trailed behind him in second place with $3,400, and Sarah was in third place with $-600. After picking up a clutch Daily Double worth $3,000 and responding correctly to the Final Jeopardy! clue, the reigning champ was able to defend her title and secure the win.
Only 16 other Jeopardy! champions in the show’s history have pulled off double-digit winning streaks, making Adriana a part of an elite group of super-champions.
“Everyone who can win multiple episodes is so impressive,” Adriana said. “I very much remember watching Ken in his original run and being amazed that he just kept on going.”
While Jeopardy! airs daily, the show’s taping schedule is much more intense. Each tape day consists of at least five games, which requires mental and physical stamina for the returning champion.
“It is exhausting,” Adriana said of taping back-to-back games. “I just remember when I come out [that playing Jeopardy!] is fun.”
“This is what I want to do and whatever happens — I’m going to try to enjoy it while it lasts,” she continued.
Adriana will go head-to-head against Connor Townsend, an attorney from Chelsea, Michigan, and Enzo Cunanan, a student from Orlando, Florida, in her 11th game on Wednesday.
