Jeopardy! is teaming up with Olay to address the gender gap in STEM education with a week of categories this February focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Each category will be presented by trailblazing women in STEM as part of our partnership in Olay’s “Face the Stem Gap” campaign.
“I think STEM is the future,” Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, said, discussing her involvement in the campaign and upcoming show appearance. “If you have experience in science, technology, engineering and math that means that you’re a problem solver — and there is nothing that you can’t fix.”
While women make up almost 50% of the U.S. workforce, only 28% of women work in STEM fields as opposed to 72% of men, according to the National Science Foundation’s 2018 The State of Girls and Women in STEM report.
“The areas relating to STEM are so important right now because our future is going to be built on science and technology,” said guest presenter Erica Baker, an engineer who rose through the ranks of Google, Slack, Microsoft and Patreon. “We need to make sure that everyone is represented in that future.”
Inspired by the Olay campaign, we’re encouraging more women to take the Anytime Test for a chance to audition to be a contestant on Jeopardy!
Nominate a woman in your life who you’d think would be great on Jeopardy! to take the test by tagging them on Instagram and Twitter, and using the hashtags #WomenOnJeopardyChallenge and #FaceTheSTEMGap.
