When my husband, Jeff, and I got out of grad school, the recession was still going, and the academic job market was dreadful. The money afforded by Jeopardy! gave us the flexibility to take a different path and pursue more entrepreneurial jobs. We both started working for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT), a quiz bowl company that produces questions and runs tournaments at the middle school, high school, and college levels. In addition, Jeopardy! gave us the resources necessary to buy a house in a San Francisco neighborhood that we love, and finally have the space for two rambunctious dogs.
